Following his short digression of John the Baptist who was a witness of the Light, John resumes his discussion about the Word who is the eternal, Creator God. The Word who was in the beginning with God, who was declared to be God and in whom was life and the Light of men, is also the source light to mankind as he comes into the world. He states,
There was the true Light which, coming into the world, enlightens every man (John 1:9)
The Word, the eternal, Creator God is our only hope of enlightenment. He is our only hope of being made right with God. But sadly, not all embrace the true Light. Though he is the creator of all things (1:10) including his own people (1:11), and though he came into the world for mankind, he was dismissed by his own. So few know God through the eternal Word. May we who have trusted in the Word continue to be a witness to the Light as was John the Baptist. May we declare him to be man’s savior and the hope for sinful man.
